October 2, 2012 - Regular Election

The Matanuska-Susitna Borough Clerk's Office is responsible for planning and administering Borough elections. Regular elections are held annually on the first Tuesday in October. Special elections and mayoral run-off elecions may be scheduled in accordance with Borough code.

Voting Methods 

October 2, 2012 - Regular Election

Absentee By-Mail Voting

Registered voters of the Borough may apply annually to have a ballot mailed to them. Voting material to include a ballot and voting instructions will be mailed approximately three weeks prior to the election in which you seek to vote.

Absentee In-Person Voting

Registered voters of the Borough may vote at designated absentee voting locations two weeks prior to election day.

Absentee In-Person voting for the October 2, 2012, regular election will begin on Monday, September 17, at various locations throughout the Borough. A complete list of absentee voting locations will be posted once confirmed.

Poll Voting

Borough residents may vote at their designated polling location on election day.  The polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Special Needs Voting

A voter who is unable to go to a polling place due to age, serious illness, or disability, may assign a personal representative to pick up and deliver a ballot and voting instructions.

Voter Registration

October 2, 2012 - Regular Election

The deadline for registering to vote in the October 2, 2012, Regular Election is
Sunday, September 2, 2012.

In order to vote in a Borough election, you must be registered to vote in state elections in the precinct in which you seek to vote in borough elections 30 calendar days prior to the election. (MSB 25.10.010)

If you need to register to vote or update your voter registration record, you must complete a Voter Registration Application. You may complete an application online or you may print an application.

Additionally, voter registration applications are available at any State Division of Elections office, State Division of Motor Vehicles, or through a voter registration agency to include the Borough Clerk's Office or the City Clerk's Office in the cities of Houston, Palmer, and Wasilla.
