• Description:
The MSB cleaned and then evaluated the condition of the Talkeetna sewer collection system over the summer of 2024 with Stephl Engineering as the consultant and Frawner Corporation performing the field work. This effort included jet spraying the pipes and manholes and capturing videos of the sewer lines and manholes once cleaned to look for damage or groundwater leaks.
  • Benefits:
The sewer pipes and manholes were installed in the late 1980’s and early 90’s and some components, mainly the manholes are beginning to deteriorate. The report below summarizes the findings, and recommends that the MSB makes repairs and replacement of a number of manholes throughout the town to minimize groundwater infiltrating the system as the next step. These repairs will reduce the groundwater that infiltrates the system is pumped to the wastewater treatment plant along with the rest of the town’s sewage where it must be treated before discharge to the river, which increases treatment costs.
  • Status:
The Borough intends to move forward with the repair and replacement of damaged manholes in the next few years using available grant funding.
  • Cost:
This project was funded through State of Alaska grant TWS Line Repairs & System Upgrades 24-DC-022.
