Polls opened at 7am, November 2 for the Matanuska-Susitna Borough 2021 Regular Election and were closed at 8pm. There was a 15.07% voter turnout. The total unofficial results were posted at 11:20 pm to the MSB website.
WIth absentee and question ballots still left to count, the race to be the next Mat-Su Borough Mayor is currently lead by Edna DeVries, 4,046 votes ahead of Matthew Beck.
In Assembly District 3, Dolores McKee leads Mark Bailey by 753 votes, while District 6 has Jesse Sumner ahead of Kristi Short by 804 votes. In the District 7 Assembly race, Ronald Bernier holds a lead of 455 votes over Tamara Boeve.
School Board District 1 candidate, Thomas Bergey is ahead of Lori Berrigan by 652 votes with District 4 candidate, Jubilee Underwood holding a 433 vote lead over Jennifer Walther.
Ballot Proposition No. 1 brought in votes of 8,363 in favor to 4,810 against. If made official, the bonds associated with the proposistion would total $61,135,000. A full list of the projects can be found in the Mat-Su Borough Regular Election Brochure on the MSB website.
A total of 2107 absentee ballots were issued to go along with 164 questioned ballots. Before the election can be made official, the Canvass Board has much work ahead in the coming days. They will start by working to verify precinct results with the spreadsheet and review precinct ballot accountability reports. Reviewing the eligibility of the outstanding absentee and questioned ballots will come next, with the final step being a Review Board count of all confirmed ballots. The Election Certification will follow, which is scheduled as a Special Assembly Meeting on November 16, 2021 at 5pm.
