Trunk Road Connector (Katherine Drive)

Description: The purpose of this project was to provide safer road and pathway access to Pioneer Peak Elementary School, the new Mat-Su Central School, and businesses nearby. This connector created an alternate access onto Trunk Road. Changes to traffic patterns on the Palmer-Wasilla Highway increased the necessity of this connecting project.
Status: The road is substantially complete and open to the public for use. MEA is currently working to supply power to the load centers for the new intersection lighting. Once power is available, the poles will be erected, and the lights will be installed.

Lakes Boulevard Upgrade

Description: Reconstruct and repave Lakes Boulevard from the Beaver Lake Road intersection approximately 1.7 miles west. The proposed roadway reconstruction will improve pavement, drainage, and road foundation.
Status: Under construction.

Hidden Hills Reconstruction

Description: This project will reconstruct Hidden Hills Road to a collector-level road from the Parks Highway to Cutthroat Drive. This project also includes a fish passage culvert for a Caswell Creek tributary.
Status: Construction of phase 1 anticipated in 2024 and 2025. Phase 1 work includes: 1) Reconstructing two sections of Hidden Hills Rd between the Parks Highway and Cutthroat Dr to collector-level road standards. 2) Fish passage culvert for a Caswell Creek tributary. The anticipated schedule is to reconstruct Hidden Hills Rd and the fish passage in spring 2025. Construction of future phases will proceed as funding allows.

Caswell Lakes Rd / Bendapole Rd / Passthebait Ave Paving

Description: The project includes paving the remainder of Caswell Lakes Road and Bendapole Road. Currently, Caswell Lakes Road is paved approximately one mile from its intersection with Hidden Hills Road. Proposed construction will also rebuild and pave Passthebait Avenue and Lostaspinner Street.
Status: The anticipated schedule is to pave Caswell Lakes Rd this summer in 2025. Construction of future phases will proceed as funding allows.

Lucille Street and Pathway Upgrade

Fern Street Reconstruction

Description: Improve Fern Street between Knik-Goose Bay Road and Fairview Loop, creating an upgraded north-south collector route and pedestrian pathway.
Status: The project team is beginning purchasing the remaining right-of-way. The project is split into two phases. Phase 1 is from Knik-Goose Bay Road to Mint Drive and includes fish passage at Cottonwood Creek. Phase 1 is near 95% design and phase 2 is 75%.

Point MacKenzie Road Reconstruction Milepost 0 to 7

Description: The purpose is to improve access to Port MacKenzie, the Goose Creek Correctional Center, and the Point MacKenzie Agricultural District. The project would add shoulders, reconstruct the embankment, and pave Point MacKenzie Road from Knik-Goose Bay Road to Ayrshire Road.
Status: Phase 1 is under construction. Work includes reconstructing Point MacKenzie Road from Knik-Goose Bay Road to east of Fire Station 6-4 (approximately 3 miles).

Palmer-Fishhook Separated Pathway

Description: The purpose is to connect and upgrade Tex-Al Drive between Palmer-Fishhook and Wasilla-Fishhook, providing a new connection and pathway.
Status: The majority of the right-of-way is in place for the connection between the west Tex-Al and east Tex-Al roads. The project team is beginning the right-of-way acquisition phase for the remainder. Design plans are available online.

Edgerton Parks Rd - Mtn Trails Drive Upgrade & Pathway

Description: This project will provide a non-motorized pathway along the north side of Edgerton Parks Road and west side of Mountain Trails Drive from Palmer-Fishhook Road to the Government Peak Recreation Area (GPRA) parking lot. Improvements to Edgerton Parks Road are also included in the project.
Status: Phase 1 is under construction with substantial completion anticipated fall 2025. Phase 2 will include pedestrian facilities across the Little Susitna River.

MSB School District Shaw Elementary Access Improvements

Description: This project will construct access improvements to and from Shaw Elementary and Birchtree Charter school. It will also complete the connection between Foxtrot Avenue and Paradise Lane.
Status: Phase 1 will complete the traffic and safety study and construct the Foxtrot connection to Paradise. Phase 2 will upgrade Foxtrot and install intersection improvements at Paradise and Wasilla Fishhook.

49th State Street Pathway

Old Glenn Pathway Phase 2

Description: The purpose is to extend the pedestrian/bike pathway along the west side of the Old Glenn Highway from Plumley Road south to the Knik River Public Use Area. The existing pathway connects Palmer to the Butte community and ends at Sodak Circle. This project will extend the pathway from Sodak Circle to Knik River.
Status: Design is 75% complete with right-of-way needs and utility conflicts identified. Acquisition of right-of-way and utility relocation efforts are underway.

Smith Road Extension Upgrade and Pathway

Engstrom Road to Trunk Road Connection

MSB School District Pedestrian Projects (Safe Routes to Schools)

Description: This package of projects was designed to provide safer access to schools for pedestrians. It implemented recommendations of the MSB Safe Routes to Schools Plan. The projects included improvements at: Big Lake Elementary School, Colony Middle & High Schools, Dena’ina Elementary and Redington Sr. Jr/Sr High School, Larson Elementary School, Machetanz Elementary School, and Talkeetna Elementary School. The projects included signage, striping, pathways, and sidewalks.
Status: Complete.

Seward Meridian Parkway-Tambert Traffic Signal

Description: This project will install a traffic signal, turn lanes, crosswalks, street lighting, and signage at the intersection of Seward Meridian Parkway and Tambert Drive. Funds were transferred to Alaska DOT&PF to include in their Seward Meridian project.
Status: Under construction as part of the Department of Transportation and Public Facilities’ Seward Meridian Parkway Phase II project.
