Public Notice > Burn Permit Suspension
As of May 28th, 2020, the National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for the Susitna River Valley. Red Flag Warnings are issued when low relative humidity, high temperatures, and high winds combine to create critical fire weather conditions.
Due to the Red Flag Warning, the Division of Forestry is suspending all burn permits in an area extending from North of Zero Lake Road, located at mile 59 of the Parks Highway, to the Denali Highway. The areas comprised are known as Mat-Su North, Mat-Su West, and the Hurricane Corridor. A map of these areas can be found at dnr.alaska.gov/burn/fireareas.
This suspension is part of continued efforts by the Division of Forestry to limit human caused fires. As a reminder, a Red Flag Warning was in place during the outbreak of the 2019 McKinley Fire that destroyed over fifty homes. For areas not affected by the suspension, please continue to abide by the conditions of the Small Scale Burn Permit, and be prepared to extinguish your fire should conditions become hotter, drier, or windier.
Thank you for your cooperation, if you have any questions please contact the Mat-Su Area Fire Prevention Team at 907-761-6305.
