Voting Assistance

A Touch Screen Voting unit will be available at the Mat-Su Borough DSJ Admin. Building and the Division of Elections, Mat-Su Regional Office, 15 days prior to the election. Touch screen voting is intended for the blind, disabled and voters with reading difficulties. The touch screen units allow disabled voters to vote unassisted with a magnified, high contrast and audio ballot. At the end of voting, the touch screen unit produces a voter-verifiable paper ballot. If you need to vote using a touch screen unit, ask an election worker for this voting option.

What Is Early Voting?

Early Voting is like going to your polling location to vote on Election Day. Your eligibility is verified right then and there by the election official. You will sign an affidavit that in part verifies that you still claim residency where you are registered to vote and that you will not vote in any other manner in the election. Early voting is offered at the main Borough Building and at the Division of Elections. Please see above for locations and times.

Steps to voting early:

  • Present your identification at an early voting location;
  • If you do not have identification and an election official does not know you by first and last name you MUST vote a questioned ballot;
  • An election official will provide you with an envelope that contains your voter information (residence address, precinct number, etc.);
  • Verify and sign the certification that everything is correct on the envelope;
  • An election official will provide the ballot you are qualified to vote and you can cast that ballot;
  • Early voted ballots are counted after the polls close on Election Night

Early Voting Security

But wait….isn’t there a possibility that someone can vote early and then go to their precinct and vote on Election Day?

No, this is not a possibility. Once you vote early, your name will be listed on the precinct register as having voted early.
