Lake Management Plan Procedure Update

Scope

The intent of this update is to amend the Lake Management Plan process. This new process will not impact previously adopted Lake Mangements Plans, nor will it impose any new regulations on lakes within the Matanuska-Susitna Borough. Rather, it provides guidance for residents who want to see enforceable regulations on the lakes where they live and recreate. This will be done by moving the Lake Mangement Plan process from Title 15 Planning to Title 17 Zoning through a proposed code change.

Project Benefits

• The updated process will meet the Assembly goal of providing efficient government services to the residents of the MSB.

• Property owners will be able to choose how to maintain or enhance the lake qualities they value most. 

• The new process for creating or ammending enforceable regulations will be easier, clearer, and less burdensome to the public. 

Project Status

Summer 2021 will be used for public outreach and education, as well as drafting the code change. Stay tuned for public engagement events, fact sheets, and the draft ordinance!
