Palmer, AK , January 9, 2026 – As first responders continue serving Matanuska-Susitna Brorough (MSB), it is essential that The MSB Department of Emergency Services (DES) has the tools needed to respond effectively in emergencies. The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation® has recognized this need and recently awarded $22,935.48 grant to purchase two Lion Fire extinguisher training systems to further strengthen the Mat-Su Borough Department of Emergency Services.
The new training systems will allow fire and rescue personnel to conduct realistic fire extinguisher use training to members of the public. This will better prepare residents for home emergencies and hopefully help extinguish fires while they are small. It will increase our ability to train members of the public in the safe and effective use of fire extinguishers as part of our risk reduction program and help to strengthen emergency response efforts and improve outcomes when seconds matter most.
“We are extremely grateful to the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation and our local Firehouse Subs® restaurant in Wasilla, AK for this vital support,” said Borough Manager, Mike Brown. “Having reliable, up-to-date equipment enhances our ability to protect lives and better serve our community.”
For more than 20 years, charitable donations have powered the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation’s mission to support first responders and public safety organizations nationwide. Since 2005, the Foundation has awarded more than 7,100 grants totaling over $105 million to public safety organizations.
