Plans > Big Lake Comprehensive Plan

Plan Overview

Big Lake is facing challenges and opportunities associated with growth in rural Alaska. As in many other parts of the state, many Big Lake residents are concluding that while they don’t welcome the idea of planning, or more meetings, they nonetheless want to have a voice in the growth of their community. In 1996, the Big Lake Community Council developed its first Comprehensive Plan, which was approved by the MSB Assembly. A little over a decade later, Big Lake has elected to update that plan to address the challenges and opportunities facing the community today and into the future. Nothing in this plan dictates what can be done on private property. The plan contains aspirational goals to help the community shape its future.
