What Does A Lake Management Plan Do?

A Lake Management Plan (LMP) presents code-enforceable regulations for a specific lake within the Mat-Su Borough. All LMPs are initiated by members of a lakeside community and must go through a petition and initial ballot process before Borough staff begins drafting an LMP. The Beverly Lake community has submitted a valid petition, meaning that over 50% of all property owners living within 600 feet of the shoreline gave their signature in support of an LMP. After Borough staff verified the petition, staff mailed a ballot that asked Beverly Lake residents to once again state their preference for or against an LMP. The ballot period was open from December 3, 2021 through February 9, 2022. A 62% majority of respondents were in favor of beginning the lake management plan process. Planning staff facilitated three public meetings in the spring of 2022 and mailed out the final ballot packet in May 2022. 54% of respondents were in favor of an LMP that included restrictions on horsepower, personal watercraft, wake zones, and quiet hours.
