Established by Matanuska-Susitna Borough Ordinance 25-030, the Joint Assembly/School Board Committee on School District Funding Issues is a collaborative body formed to evaluate and make recommendations related to school funding. The Committee is composed of three Assembly members and three School Board members, appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Assembly.
The Committee's purpose is to thoroughly examine all aspects of the School District’s budget, including operational, capital, and bonding matters. It provides strategic recommendations to both the Assembly and the School Board regarding funding strategies, legislative initiatives, and potential code changes.
Meetings are held annually during the final quarter of the calendar year, with additional meetings scheduled as needed. These meetings are open to the public and supported by key staff, including the Borough Manager, Borough Finance Director, and School District leadership. While formal agendas and minutes are not required, the Committee plays a vital role in fostering transparency, collaboration, and informed decision-making on school finance matters.
