Big Lake Intersections Improvements

Scope

The purpose of this project is to evaluate, determine and implement roadway improvements at two key intersections along Big Lake Road: one at Big Lake Road & Northshore Drive and the other at Big Lake Road and Hollywood Drive. The intersection improvement recommendations are based on an engineering analysis that considered traffic and pedestrian safety, roadway drainage, and maintenance costs as well as public comment and community goals for a roundabout. The downloadable document here is the updated figure showing the roundabout design for the Big Lake Road-Northshore Drive intersection.

Project Benefits

A resolution by the Big Lake Community Council identified pedestrian safety and vehicle speed as some of the concerns they hope the project will address and their priority on the Northshore Drive intersection. Borough and State maintenance crews have identified drainage as a major headache at both locations.

Project Status

Construction is complete. Light poles are installed with temporary halogen lights in place. LED mast head components will be installed and activated in December 2016 and January 2017.
