In May of 2015, the Borough Assembly adopted Resolution 15-049 supporting a reorganization of Title 17 to improve its functionality, ease of understanding, interpretation and enforcement; to add necessary sections and definitions which are not currently present; and to eliminate redundant and conflicting processes. In addition, the Assembly indicated the reorganization should consist of efforts to reorganize and clarify Title 17, and that their intent was not to increase or decrease the requirements of the existing code, to the best extent possible.
The Resolution contains a comprehensive history of how the existing Title 17 Zoning was created, and evolved over the years into somewhat of a “crazy quilt.”
Land which is not within any of the three cities (Palmer, Wasilla and Houston), or zoned something else, will now be called the General Use District within the new revised Title 30 Zoning, and regulations will remain mostly unchanged. This has all been accomplished internally by staff.
A copy of the resolution is included with the Director Memo and Attachments on this page.
The benefits of the Title 17 reorganization is improved functionality, ease of understanding, interpretation and enforcement; the add necessary sections and definitions which are not currently present; and eliminate redundant and conflicting processes.
