Lakeview Road will be closed September 9, 2025 - October 15, 2025. This closure will allow pavement preservation work to be completed. The Matanuska-Susitna Borough, Land & Resource Management Division has received an application from Matanuska Electric Association (MEA) requesting a 20’ wide public utility easement on a Borough-owned property known as Tract H, Alaska State Land Survey No. 2002-001, Plat 2023-53 (tax account number 58386000T00H). This property is the location of Skeetawk Alpine Ski Area. At the request of Skeetawk, MEA plans to install a primary electric utility service line to the ski lift for operations.

The Matanuska-Susitna Borough (Borough) Land & Resource Management Division is proposing a salvage timber sale on Borough owned parcel tax ID 18N01E30B002. The parcel is located about 1.5 miles northwest of Wasilla off E. Paradise Lane and E. Foxtrot Avenue. The timber sale is intended to remove all trees within the footprint of the future Birchtree Charter School and includes about 10 acres. Access to the designated harvest area will be along E. Paradise Lane. This proposed harvest area is near Shaw Elementary School. The harvest operation must be scheduled to minimize traffic during peak school traffic times.

Land & Resource Management Division has received a request from Cellco Partnership, dba Verizon Wireless to lease a 30’ x ’30 portion of Borough-owned property for the construction and operation of a commercial telecommunications facility. The request also includes a 15’ access and utility easement to the proposed lease location as well as a 5’ utility easement to provide power to the facility. The proposed lease area and access and utility easements are located on Borough-owned property utilized by West Lakes Fire Department Station 7-2. Emergency Services is aware of the request and is supportive of the wireless telecommunication facility. The 30’ x 30’ lease area will house a 125’ monopole and associated telecommunication equipment necessary to operate the facility.

The Matanuska-Susitna Borough is in the process of updating its Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP), and we invite your participation in the public comment period. HMP helps guide the Borough in identifying risks and developing strategies to reduce the impacts of natural hazards on our communities.
This update includes the identification of two new hazards: tsunamis and permafrost-thaw landslides. We encourage you and your community members to review the plan, share your feedback, and provide input on mitigation priorities.
