Matanuska-Susitna Borough

Stormwater Management Program Planning

Scope

In December of 2022, the U.S. Census Bureau delineated a portion of the core area of the Mat-Su Borough as an Urban Area. This designation triggers additional stormwater regulations within the urban area. Stormwater will be regulated under a Phase II Small Municipal Seperate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permit. Pending official notification, the Matanuska Susitna Borough (MSB), the cities of Palmer and Wasilla, and the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (ADOT&PF) will have roughly one year to develop and implement a stormwater management program that removes and mitigates stormwater runoff pollution from our systems.

The MSB Planning Division prepared for these changes by conducting a six-part educational program on municipal stormwater management from May 2022 through November 2022.   *Presentation summaries from the meetings are found in the “Project Docs" links on the sidebar.

As the stormwater management program develops, more information will be added to this project page,
