Public Notice > Fish Creek Conservation Area Trail Opening
MATANUSKA-SUSITNA BOROUGH
PUBLIC NOTICE
Type: Access (MSB004870) Fish Creek Conservation Easement
A snow depth and trail condition inspection was performed on January 3, 2020. Based on the information gathered, the Great Land Trust (GLT) determined that; “….the snow base and with the sustained cold temperatures we are having, it appears that the ground should remain frozen and covered with sufficient snow/ice to protect the underlying resources.” Based on GLTs determination the FCCA trails located south of Gonder Road near Big Lake can be opened to dogsledding and grooming activities at this time.
In addition, the gate near the Kiosk on Gonder Road can be opened for plowing and access to the ADMC Club house (note: please close and lock the gate when not in use).
Please be aware that due to the rapidly changing weather and snow conditions that the FCCA trails may be closed at any time to protect the underlying vegetation. Any changes affecting future trail conditions will be updated through Matanuska Susitna Borough Public Notice webpage, e-mails, and will be posted at the Gonder Road Kiosk.
Please be aware there are several beetle killed spruce trees near the Kiosk at Gonder Road that could present a potential hazard to vehicles and/or other activities along this section of Gonder Road. The MSB is working with GLT to manage this issue.
Due to damage to the existing lock, a new lock has been installed on the Gonder Road gate and the combination has been changed. The new combination is available from the MSB Land and Resource Management Office at 861-7863 on request from authorized ADMC members.
