Notice Type Firewood Harvest
The Mat-Su Borough Visitor Center Personal Use Firewood Area will open Monday, April 21, 2025, for harvesting approximately 10 cords of stacked and limbed birch and cottonwood. The site is near milepost 36 of the Glenn Highway in Palmer, Alaska. Access is via a driveway off E Matanuska Spur and will be marked with flagging and signs. Please see attached map.
Important Details:
- No cutting of live standing trees is allowed.
- A free permit is required and must be carried during wood removal.
- Permits can be obtained online via the Mat-Su Borough E-Commerce webpage at Personal Use Firewood Area (Please note that an e-mail and credit card are required to create an ecommerce account), or in person by appointment at the Land & Resource Management Division located at 350 E. Dahlia Avenue, Palmer, Monday to Friday between the hours of 8am-5pm, Mon-Fri.
- There is no limit on the amount of wood a permit holder may take; availability is first come, first served.
- The permit will expire after all available wood has been removed, or by May 21, 2025.
